Premium Ice Production Guide: 9-Step Workflow for Clear Ice
A practical 9-step guide to premium clear ice production: water filtration, block makers, hoists, cutting, CNC engraving, packing, storage and delivery setup.
This guide is designed to help you
clearly understand the full ice production process and choose only the equipment you really need — without unnecessary purchases or complicated solutions.
Basically you have 9 stages: you need to

05 – cut block to “slubs”
06 – engrave (if needed)
07 – cut slubs to make cubes, spheres, diamonds

Start with Clean Water
To produce premium clear ice, you need clean drinking water and a reverse osmosis (RO) filtration system. For crystal clear ice production, the water should have a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) level below 20–30 ppm. A standard household reverse osmosis system is usually sufficient to achieve this and can be purchased from most local suppliers or home improvement stores.
Proper water filtration is the key to producing high-quality premium ice with exceptional clarity.
Block Machine for Ice Production
Ice cube production always starts with freezing clear ice blocks. The choice of equipment depends on your space, production volume, and workflow preferences.

Hoist for Ice Block Removal
After the production of the ice block you have to remove it from the equipment. We use a compact electric hoist specifically designed for ice production. In addition to block removal, it can be used for various workshop tasks and for installing ice sculptures at event locations.
Till Cart
The tilt cart is used to lower, rotate, and transport ice blocks to any processing area (cutting, freezer, truck, etc.
Cutting Ice into Slabs
Once the ice block is ready, it must be cut into smaller sections — ice slabs — which will later be processed into cubes.
There are two available methods:
• Manual cutting using a chainsaw (such as Makita or Stihl)
• Cutting with the horizontal band saw C70
Manual cutting is time-consuming and results in higher ice loss, as each slab must be separated individually and then moved for further cutting. However, if workshop space is limited and a large horizontal saw cannot be installed, this method remains a practical option.

Our horizontal band saw C70 is specifically designed for fast and precise ice slab cutting. In approximately 15 minutes, one large ice block is processed into 15–20 perfectly even slabs with minimal ice loss. The saw requires a minimum installation area of 2 × 2 meters and an electrical connection of 3-phase or 1-phase power (3.5 kW / 25 A). The ice block can be cut either directly from the floor with subsequent lifting, or while positioned on a lifting cart (ours or a compatible third-party cart.
Custom Logos and Designs on Ice Cubes
Personalized ice cubes with logos, names, monograms, and custom designs are becoming increasingly popular for weddings, corporate events, cocktail bars, private parties, and luxury celebrations.
There are two main methods for branding ice:
using custom ice stamps,
using CNC ice engraving machines.
While stamps are suitable for small-scale production, CNC ice engraving offers a fast and fully automated solution. The process requires only a perfectly flat ice slab, while the machine automatically engraves logos, text, or custom artwork with high precision and consistent quality.
Cut ice to make cubes, spheres, diamonds, etc
For this step, we use a professional stainless steel table saw. Once you have got flat ice slabs from a large block – you can proceed to cut it into cubes 5×5 cm, 4×11 cm, etc.
When you have ready cubes – you can put them in ice press to get spheres, roses, diamonds cylinders, football balls, etc.
Pack ice to make it ready for delivery
The finished cubes, spheres, and diamonds need to be packaged. You can use a plastic bag or a cardboard box for this. Each of these two methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. You can read more about this here
What we do not recommend is vacuum packing. In vacuum-sealed packaging, the cubes will freeze together due to temperature fluctuations during shipping and storage.
Storage and Freezing
After packing ice must be stored in a suitable freezer — walk-in, chest, or upright, depending on the planned production volume.
At the initial stage, a standard commercial freezer (such as those used for ice cream in retail stores) is usually sufficient.
If you plan to operate two or more machines, or to store large ice blocks for sculpting, a dedicated freezing room is recommended. Ideally, it should be divided into two temperature zones: • Negative zone (-10 to -12 °C) for ice storage • Positive zone ( 0 to +2 °C) for ice cutting and handling)
Cutting ice in a 0 to +2°C environment is significantly more efficient and reduces cracking and ice loss. Please contact our specialist for details.
